With summer in the rearview mirror, and retailers already preparing for the holiday season, it’s also time for consumers to start thinking about preparing for another – not as exciting – season: flu season.

Before the coughing and sneezing is fully underway, many major pharmacies are offering consumers incentives to come in and get their flu shots this year. While most insurance companies cover the cost of the flu shot, consumers can expect extra coupons, discounts, and savings from retailers across the country.

Get rewarded for your flu shot

Where are these deals and what can consumers expect?

Here is a list of some of the pharmacies that are offering bonuses for stopping in for your annual flu shot:

  • Walgreens: Consumers can walk-in to their local Walgreens pharmacy for their flu shot, or schedule an appointment. When you get your flu shot at Walgreens this year, you’re also eligible to receive $10 in Walgreens cash, though you must be a myWalgreens rewards member to redeem the offer.

  • CVS: Consumers can schedule an appointment for their flu shot at any CVS, Target, or MinuteClinic location. As a bonus, CVS is offering consumers a coupon for $5 off your purchase of $20 or more after getting your flu shot this season.

  • Hy-Vee: No appointment is necessary to get your flu shot at a Hy-Vee pharmacy, though consumers can still book an appointment for their vaccine at a time that best suits their schedule. Hy-Vee is also offering consumers a discount on gas – $0.20 off/gallon as part of the Hy-Vee Fuel Saver + Perks reward program.

  • Safeway: Consumers can save on groceries when they get their flu shot at Safeway this year. Safeway takes either walk-ins or appointments at their pharmacies, and in return, you’ll get 10% off your next grocery purchase of qualifying items up to $200. Consumers must spend at least $40 to get the discount, and must also be part of Safeway’s rewards program.

  • Kroger: Kroger is also offering a grocery discount for those getting their flu shots. The retailer will give rewards members $10 off their grocery order after getting the vaccine. Rewards members must add the coupon to their accounts in the Kroger app, and then have it scanned in-store after receiving the vaccine.

  • Giant Eagle: No appointments are necessary for flu shots at Giant Eagle, and consumers can also get a $5 reward to use at the store after getting the vaccine. Consumers must show their rewards cards when they get the vaccine to ensure they also get the coupon.

  • Winn-Dixie: Another opportunity to save on groceries is available at Winn-Dixie. Consumers can save up to $20 on their grocery order after getting their flu shot at Winn-Dixie. The retailer is offering $10 off groceries for those getting the flu shot or COVID-19 vaccine/booster, and an additional $10 off for those who get more than one vaccine at the same time – the flu shot, COVID-19 vaccine/booster, or any other eligible vaccine.

  • Sam’s Club: Members of Sam’s Club can get $5 in-club shopping credit if they get their flu shot by September 24.

While each pharmacy has its own deadlines to redeem these offers, many of them are running through the end of the year, giving consumers plenty of time to get their flu shots and earn and redeem their bonuses.
