Rebel Moon ending explained: What happened to Jimmy? (2024)

Rebel Moon ending spoilers follow.

Zack Snyder is back on Netflix with his new planned universe, which starts with Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire.

The new movie sees Kora (Sofia Boutella) assemble a group of warriors to make a stand against the Motherworld, led by the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee), and protect the people of her adopted home on Veldt.

Rebel Moon was split into two movies so it's not a surprise that Part One ends on a few cliffhangers to tease what's coming in Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, and you might be left with a few questions.

So let's delve into Rebel Moon – Part One's ending to explain what we can and, be warned, major spoilers await.

After assembling her group of warriors from various planets, Kora stops off at the spaceport of Gondival after Kai (Charlie Hunnam) tells her that he needs to drop off some packages to make a clean start at life.

It's all a trap though, as it's revealed that Kai has been working with Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) all along and everybody is captured. Noble makes the mistake of trying to make Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) kill Kora though, and he frees her instead.

During the ensuing battle, Kai is killed and Darrian Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher) sacrifices himself to take down Noble's world-destroying ship, the King's Gaze. It comes down to a battle between Kora and Noble and she manages to stab him with his own bone staff, before he falls to his presumed death (more on that in a bit).

Kora and the surviving rebels head back to Veldt after a victory that General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) calls a "blow to the Motherworld" and the "beginning of something", hinting that the rebels might have more people to help them fight in Part Two.

After they land back on Veldt, we see Jimmy and he's sporting a nifty new antler crown. There's no explanation for it in the movie, but in case you're worried it means he's turned to the dark side, fear not.

Earlier in the movie, it was revealed that Jimmy is one of the remaining sentient robots that were previously used to protect the royal family of the Motherworld. However, when the king and his family were slain, all Jimmys were rendered purposeless and don't fight anymore.

That is how we met this particular Jimmy, but when he spots some of Noble's soldiers assaulting Sam (Charlotte Maggi) on Veldt, he helps Kora kill them because Sam earlier showed Jimmy kindness.

It likely awakened purpose in Jimmy and, while there's no royal family to protect, he might have chosen to protect the people of Veldt instead. What the antler crown symbolises remains to be seen, but maybe he just fancied wearing something that marked out his rebirth in life.

Who was Princess Issa?

Jimmy's new purpose in life could be linked to his former one to protect Princess Issa, the child of the former king. Kora was assigned as the personal guardian to Issa too, but something happened and Issa was killed, which will be addressed in Part Two.

Issa was prophesied to bring a new era of peace and compassion to the Motherworld, ending all wars. She was named after a former queen who was said to have the power to give life – a power we see Issa carry out in a flashback sequence.

Assuming that Princess Issa really is dead, it could well be that somebody else takes up the mantle to bring peace to the Motherworld. That could well be Kora and it's possible that Jimmy sees that in her when she protects Sam from Noble's soldiers.

It fits with Snyder describing the Jimmys as "quest knights". "Their child is the chalice and they must protect it at all costs," he told IGN, while he compared this particular Jimmy to Lancelot in a separate interview with Empire.

All of it means that Jimmy might view Kora as the new Princess Issa, reigniting his quest to protect her at all costs.

What happened to Atticus Noble?

Atticus Noble looked in a rough way after his battle with Kora, but the final scene of Rebel Moon – Part One sees him picked up by Motherworld soldiers.

Balisarius wants a word and even though he's near to death, Noble is plugged into a neural link that transports his mind to talk to Balisarius directly. Understandably, Balisarius isn't best pleased with his failure.

Noble tells him that he has at least found "the Scargiver", likely a nickname that has lingered since Kora's days in the Motherworld army. She was taken in by Balisarius after her family (and basically her entire planet) were killed by his forces.

Kora quickly rose through the ranks and became the personal guardian to Princess Issa, but then something happened that led to Issa's death and Kora fleeing from the Motherworld to hide out on Veldt.

We'll likely see what happened in Part Two, but back to Noble and he's told in no uncertain terms by Balisarius that if he doesn't kill the rebels and bring Kora to him, then Noble will be killed.

The neural link is then severed and Noble wakes back up in his own body. He's still in rough shape, but his eyes open and look set on revenge as Rebel Moon – Part One comes to a close.

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire is available to watch now on Netflix.

In "Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire," Zack Snyder introduces audiences to a captivating world where Kora, portrayed by Sofia Boutella, leads a group of warriors against the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, played by Fra Fee, and the oppressive forces of the Motherworld. The narrative unfolds with a series of twists and cliffhangers that set the stage for the upcoming sequel, "Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver."

Let's delve into the key concepts and plot points presented in the article:

  1. Kora and the Warriors: The protagonist, Kora, assembles a diverse group of warriors from various planets to resist the Motherworld's domination and protect her adopted home on Veldt.

  2. Betrayal and Capture: A pivotal moment in the plot occurs when Kai, played by Charlie Hunnam, betrays Kora, leading to their capture by Atticus Noble, portrayed by Ed Skrein. This event triggers a sequence of battles and sacrifices.

  3. Jimmy's Transformation: Jimmy, a character introduced as one of the remaining sentient robots, undergoes a significant transformation. Having served the royal family in the past, Jimmy's purpose is reawakened when he witnesses an act of kindness. His newfound commitment is symbolized by a mysterious antler crown.

  4. Princess Issa's Legacy: Princess Issa, a character from the Motherworld, had a significant role in bringing peace and compassion. Jimmy's renewed purpose may be linked to protecting Issa's legacy and ensuring a new era of peace.

  5. Atticus Noble's Fate: After a fierce battle with Kora, Atticus Noble faces consequences from the Motherworld. Despite his near-death state, he is connected to a neural link, revealing the looming threat of the Scargiver and Balisarius's dissatisfaction with Noble's failure.

  6. Revenge and Sequel Setup: The article hints at Atticus Noble's determination for revenge as "Rebel Moon – Part One" concludes, setting the stage for the sequel. The narrative promises to explore Kora's past in the Motherworld and the events leading to her escape to Veldt.

  7. General Titus's Perspective: General Titus, played by Djimon Hounsou, views the rebels' victory as a "blow to the Motherworld" and suggests that it marks the "beginning of something," indicating potential allies for the rebels in Part Two.
