It would help if there was a way to help someone budget money when their income doesn't even cover their basic needs. I can budget money without the help from this book, but it sucks when it's the electric company that is "below the line" and the electric is getting shut off. It's either rent or electric. Childcare or gas to get to school. I'd like to see help for people in that situation. I can't think of savings, but I once applied these principals, and I hope that one day soon I'll have money to actually start saving again. Once I can start saving again and start looking into the advice in here that I didn't already have such insight with (mortgages, retirement plans, money markets, and such) then I will appreciate the book even more.

Dave Ramsey is designed for today's Christian: luke-warm, wealthy, irresponsible, easily influenced by manipulation and repetition. Dave: "Does this make sense, say yes." Audience: "Yes...master".

However, if you're not a luke-warm Christian, not wealthy, and are annoyed by the abundance of cliches, Dave Ramsey's material probably won't help.

what an amazing process to go through as a couple...when your heart is open. We did this as a class with other people which was so neat because other people had ideas that were great! This brought hubby and I so much closer and on the same page with gazelle intensity with one single goal to become and to live 100% debt free!!! I am not someone that loves a budget or loves to make one, but I am a huge fan now after seeing how quickly we can make our money work for us, just by having a place for every dollar we bring home!

This is the antidote to being raised knowing nothing about money and being predeceased by parents who didnt either. If you want to break that generational curse and have something to show for your hard work and leave it to your kids, READ AND APPLY of this book. It is life changing. Our financial futures dont magically take care if themselves, nor does someone rescue us from our irresponsible financial lives...A successful future must be EARNED and this book /course MOTIVATES us to do the work. !!!!

Even though this is from 2007, it is still just as relevant today. Everybody, and I mean everybody needs to listen to this.

There's some sound financial advice, if you can get through all of the sexism, millennial shaming and christian-brainwashing. He mentioned the "Me generation" and "political correctness" so often that its' super distracting and takes away from the actual advice that he's giving in the book. No one is forcing women to work, Ramsey. Have you ever considered that women WANT to work? That maybe women don't want to be just mothers or housewives? Maybe the generation who raised millennials should look inward on why they hate millennials so much? You people raised them. If they're not to your liking then maybe do some self-reflection on why they ended up the way they did?

Anyway. This book is a one star, at best. Save yourself the trouble and just Google the "Baby Steps" and spare yourself a few hundred pages of being shamed for being born in the generation you have been.

Meh, most of the facts can be found in more detailed resources without condescending remarks or religious agendas being pushed. Also, it lacks alternative debt mitigating methods that would be beneficial if the bad behavior was just fixed from the start I.e. just admit some bad behavior and get the debt avalanche underway instead of wasting time and money on a debt snow ball. Also, if you’re just not from a privileged background, being in debt in America is likely a result of high costing healthcare and education, not necessarily bad consumerism. This course completely ignores that and only focuses on the latter. The resulting advice is lacking if you’re not the target audience.

I took the class at my church, but had to miss about half of the sessions. I had every intention of watching the sessions with my family, but they had no interest, and I kept putting off getting them to do so. Now my one year subscription to view the classes has ended. There were a lot of good principles here, but the book is really just a place for taking notes when the classes are watched. It is not particularly useful by itself.

I was given this book by a former employer after they asked me it I'd like help with personal finances and I, being a recent college graduate, said yes. The book is fine, definitely meant for use with the videos and everything. It was mostly geared toward couples. Many of the things listed i already do thanks to things my dad taught me, but there are some changes i could make. I may revisit the book and actually work through it sometime in the future, but for now I'm checking it off my list.

Life changing book when you DO the plan! It just goes along with the video series you can get online and follow along with. It's a fill in the blank kind of workbook, but I like that it has places for you to make notes when you have those a-ha moments. When you are ready to do something different with your finances, give this a try. It will change your life.

Read the edition from 93 or 95 and he used 2016 for financial projections a few times which was actually interesting to read. He gives good advice no matter what stage of life/lifestyle you have so the contents are easily applicable to anyone.

Comprehensive and Imperative for anyone who wants to really get ahead financially. Try to get your hands on the CD set as well (I know that I am really aging myself here, but at least I didn't say cassette tapes, eh?) and listen to them over and over again.

2020 was a year I wanted to learn more about finances and managing money. This was the second book in my line to read. I found it to be the second most helpful out of the five books I read. First place went to "The Truth About Money" by Ric Edleman. That got first place because of the breadth of financial topics covered, which really helped me gain a broader foundation of understanding of what can be done with money such as different investment options, financial planning, wills, estate planning, etc.

"Financial Peace" came in second because it provided a really good game plan on how to get your finances under control, in order, and how to start building wealth. Dave Ramsey's approach connected well with me because it is not just about how to handle money, it is founded on the larger quality of improving oneself. It is about strengthening our personal characteristic to be honest (both with ourselves and others), reliable (both with ourselves and others), disciplined (in the way we save, use, and handle money), and generous (how we go about using wealth to benefit the lives of others).

I believe as we develop and strengthen these characteristics not only will the blessings mentioned in countless stories throughout the book start to occur in our own life, but we will find other areas of our live improving as well (health, relationships, education, leadership, etc.).

Though I found "The Truth about Money" more helpful in regards to understanding the world of finances, I discovered "Financial Peace" to be far more insightful on how to moving life from being controlled by finances to building a life that controls finances.

If your financial skills are on the good to great scale then there are sections of this book that can be skimmed or skipped (such as worksheets or the process to get your finances under control). Though don't devalue the lessons that are taught in those sections that could be applied to other areas of life, or perhaps you may find better methods provided in these sections than you are already using.

I would recommend this book to anyone who feels their finances are never enough, out of control, haven't had any instruction on financial management, or are seeking to know more about this important life skill. The lessons you will learn in this book will change your life for the better and at the same time improve other aspects of your life, if you see the applicable connections and make the changes.

Enjoy!

Good stuff, especially on the topic of paying off debt. I would recommend it to anyone who owes on credit cards, car loans, or any other debt where they pay interest.

I don't believe Dave's specific advice on investing is as good as his advice on retiring debt. To his credit, Dave says not to invest in anything you do not understand. Compare the performance of an S&P 500 index fund to managed funds and the fees before following his investment advice.

I am however suspect about Dave's specific advice on investing in mutual funds. For the period of December 31, 1992 to December 31, 2007, only 41.6% of actively-managed U.S. large company funds that beat the S&P 500 in a particular year were able to beat the S&P 500 in the next year. After three years, only 9.7% of the original group was still beating the index. The numbers are similar for actively-managed small cap funds and emerging market funds.

In short, do your research carefully do not invest in anything just because "Dave says". Think for yourself. Question authority.
