Baked Tofu marinated in a delicious, rich and tamari sauce. In this Vegan Tofu Recipes, I use firm tofu and made a simple and super quick sauce that you’re sure to love. Served with a green salad. You will LOVE it!
First used in China around 200 BC, tofu is a staple of many Asian diets. Today it is part of mainstream plant-based cuisine. Tofu is made by curdling hot soy milk with a coagulant (commonly calcium sulfate), which creates curds with a soft, fresh, cheese-like texture.
The two most commonly used types of tofu are extra-firm and silken.
Extra-firm tofu is appropriate for grilling and pan-frying applications. In addition to tofu, there are a number of other soy products that are used in the plant-based kitchen, such as yuba (tofu skin), okara (soy pulp), dehydrated tofu, and fermented smelly tofu.
How to Make a Simple Baked Tofu with Incredible Flavour – Step by Step – Vegan Tofu Recipes
Step 1: Gather the dried sliced tofu, garlic + onion powder, black pepper, olive oil and tamari sauce. (In the photo olive and tamari has been together)
Step 2: Mix the marinated ingredients and cover the tofu slices. Leave them to rest for 1 hour.
Step 3: Bake the tofu in 356 Fahrenheit until golden on both sides.
Step 4: Serve the baked tofu with a salad of your choice.
Tips for Cooking Tofu
- Prior to using tofu, it is important to press out as much liquid as possible. This allows the tofu to better absorb other flavors from marinades or sauces.
- To do this, wrap the tofu in a towel and place in a colander. Lay something somewhat heavy, such as a plate, on top and leave it for 20 minutes to remove any excess water.
- Another way to remove excess water is to freeze and defrost it. Note that this method of freezing results in a more porous, “meatier” texture that is good if you want to use tofu as cutlets or when you want a chewy texture.
- To make the perfect Baked Tofu, you have to make sure that you season it very well. Leave it to rest for at least 1 hour.
- Instead of Tamari, you can use Soya sauce.
Variations for this Recipe
- Cut the Baked Tofu into cubes and marinate it with tomato sauce, so you can use it as “meatball” in a pasta plate. Drizzle some nutritional yeast on the top and you have a perfect balance plate.
- Cut the baked Tofu into slices and make a sandwich with hummus, lettuce and avocado slices.
- Bake red and green peppers. Use wooden skewers and place alternate red pepper – tofu – green pepper – red pepper – tofu – green pepper.
